Penfield community program educates residents on climate change
PENFIELD, N.Y. (WROC) — Wednesday marked the second day of a three-day event curated to educate residents about climate change and environmental advocacy within the Penfield community.
The program, titled "The Week: Worldwide Action to Acknowledge our Environmental Crisis," is a partnership between Color Penfield Green and Penfield Recreation that leads registrants of all ages through guided discussion. Each night of the event includes moments of group reflection after watching short films and a part of a documentary surrounding the topic of climate change.
Described as a "shared learning experience", organizers say 'The Week' is a community conference that provides an opportunity for learning, sharing, and community engagement. Topics discussed on Wednesday included supporting biking and public transit infrastructure, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and electrifying homes and vehicles.
"There are some things that have to be decided at the community level so it is it's critically important that we have groups in every community pushing these solutions forward and asking our elected officials and those in charge to sometimes make the hard decisions, but the ones that will make life livable," said co-lead of Color Penfield Green Katie Rigg.
The program will continue on Thursday at Dolomite Lodge in Penfield from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
