Person in Worcester dumpster falls into garbage truck during pick-up
Workers accidentally dumped a person who was apparently sleeping in a dumpster into a garbage truck in Worcester Wednesday.
At 6:30 a.m. police were called to 265 Grafton St., the location of a Dunkin' Donuts, according to Worcester Police Department Sergeant Elise Miranda.
The person, who was not identified, was apparently sleeping in the dumpster during near-freezing temperatures when the truck came to empty out the trash.
"The trash company has a camera system on their truck and the employee could see there was a human in the trash compartment," Miranda wrote in an email to MassLive. "The police were called."
Worcester EMS and Worcester firefighters helped the person out of the garbage truck and they were taken to a local hospital, Miranda said.
"There were no obvious major injuries, and the individual was conscious and alert; able to speak with officers," Miranda said.
Miranda did not say how or why the person was inside the dumpster.
