Pittsburgh Public Schools will operate remotely from April 22–24 as the city prepares to host the 2026 NFL Draft .
With road closures, heightened security, parking restrictions, and heavy traffic expected, the city believes remote learning is the best option during that time.
The 2026 NFL Draft will take place April 23–25, 2026, welcoming 500,000 to 700,000 fans to Pittsburgh. VisitPittsburgh expects the 2026 NFL Draft to be the biggest event in the city of Pittsburgh's history.
According to Pittsburgh's Public Store , PPS students will participate in asynchronous learning over the course of three days, meaning they will work independently, on their own schedule, based on assignments and instructions given by teachers. School staff will also work remotely and there will be limited access to school buildings and parking lots.
"Our priority is maintaining continuity of learning while recognizing the extraordinary circumstances the city will experience during the NFL Draft," Walters said in a news release. "Transitioning to asynchronous learning allows us to support students academically while helping families navigate the logistical challenges expected across the region."
The draft stage will sit on the North Shore, outside Acrisure Stadium. The NFL Draft Experience fan festival will be at Point State Park. The Roberto Clemente Bridge will close to car traffic so fans can move between the two areas on foot.
"The layout of the 2026 NFL Draft campus is intentionally designed to celebrate Pittsburgh's sense of place," said Jerad Bachar, President & CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "From the North Shore to Point State Park, across the Roberto Clemente Bridge and along the rivers, this Draft will showcase our city's character, connectivity, and hospitality in a way only Pittsburgh can."
For the first time since December of 1947, the city of Pittsburgh will host the NFL Draft.
The draft will provide an astronomical economic boost to the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Detroit hosted the 2024 NFL Draft, and saw an estimated $160 million economic windfall from doing so, while setting an all-time attendance record, with over 775,000 people visiting the Motor City for the three-day event in April.
