WEST SPRINGFIELD ― West Springfield police called in the Massachusetts State Police and a crisis negotiator Saturday afternoon after an "emotionally disturbed" man with guns barricaded himself in a city home, state police said.

The Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team and its fire and explosion investigators also responded after a fire broke out inside the home, Trooper Leah M. O'Connell told The Republican in an email on Monday.

West Springfield police said in a statement that the man set a fire inside the Hanover Street home before he was taken into custody.
