Popular Boston beer garden to be replaced by new tenant after 9 years
A longtime tenant of Boston's Rose Kennedy Greenway is not coming back for the 2026 summer season.
The Trillium beer garden, located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and High Street, will not reopen at the Greenway this summer after nearly a decade in operation.
"Since opening as the first beer garden in Boston in 2017, the Greenway has been our summer home," Mike Dyer, the brewery's vice president of sales and marketing, told The Boston Globe Wednesday. "That location is unique, and has helped us connect with a lot of locals and commuters and Boston visitors. They have been a fun and important part of the Trillium brand [for] 9, almost 10 years."
Trillium's beer garden will not return as the conservancy that oversees the Greenway has chosen a new tenant after the conservancy solicited bids.
"At the conclusion of Trillium's lease term, the Conservancy issued a competitive RFP in accordance with standard nonprofit best practices," Eileen Ong, director of programs and outreach for Greenway Conservancy, said in a statement.
"Trillium submitted a proposal through that process alongside other local applicants; however, as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting Boston-based businesses and creating opportunities for new vendors, we selected a new partner to be announced later this spring," she continued. "We look forward to continuing to bring a vibrant, community-focused experience to The Greenway."
Ong added that "Trillium has been a valued partner of the Greenway Conservancy for many years, and we're very grateful for the role they played in helping to establish our beverage gardens and in welcoming so many visitors to the park. Their creativity and partnership helped shape a program that has become a beloved seasonal destination ."
Trillium's other Boston locations are in Fenway and Fort Point. The New England farmhouse-inspired brewing company also operates in Canton.
The brewing company also addressed their Greenway location on social media Wednesday by writing, "Finally, while word is trickling out that we won't be returning to the Rose Kennedy Greenway, where we've operated our summer seasonal beer garden since 2017, fans of the space will be excited to learn that we are actively working on a few exciting options ... stay tuned!"
In addition, Trillium has opened its new indoor Winter Beer Garden at The Connector at Winthrop Center. Located at 115 Federal St., the garden offers "a rotating lineup of draft beers, canned cocktails and wine, alongside made to order Neapolitan pizza from Gatto Pazzo," Trillium wrote on Instagram .
Dryer also told The Boston Globe that the brewing company opened the garden because it was "looking to create a new amenity, a new opportunity to connect with our brand during the winter months, when typically you can't go and enjoy the social aspects of a beer garden due to a Boston winter."
He added, "There's plenty in store for Trillium fans."
