Popular regional bakery to close two Boston-area stores
A regional bread bakery that is a staple of supermarkets around New England and beyond is closing two of its company stores in the Boston area this month.
When Pigs Fly Breads announced on its Facebook page last week that its stores at 613 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain and 1378 Beacon St. in Brookline would both close as of Aug. 17. The company was unable to renew its lease at either location, according to the announcement.
"We are so grateful to both communities for your support, your love of great bread, and the memories we've shared," the company wrote in the Aug. 8 post.
The company will retain its two remaining Massachusetts stores, at 241 Elm St. in Somerville and 1756 Massachusetts Ave. in Lexington, as well as its location in Kittery, Maine. When Pigs Fly also offers online ordering for home delivery.
According to Brookline News , the Beacon Street store had been in business for over 20 years.
When Pigs Fly was founded in 1993 in Wells, Maine, and now operates out of a bakery in York, according to its website .
