Recall Alert: Trader Joe’s, Walmart pasta meals may be contaminated with Listeria

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for certain ready-to-eat meals containing pre-cooked pasta that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious illness.

The alert covers two products: 12-ounce clear plastic tray packages labeled "MARKETSIDE LINGUINE WITH BEEF MEATBALLS & MARINARA SAUCE" sold at Walmart, with "best if used by" dates from September 22 through October 1, 2025, and 16-ounce plastic tray packages labeled "TRADER JOE'S CAJUN STYLE BLACKENED CHICKEN BREAST FETTUCINE ALFREDO" sold at Trader Joe's, with "best if used by" dates September 20, 24, or 27, 2025. Both products bear USDA establishment numbers inside the inspection mark.

Testing of the FDA-regulated pre-cooked pasta ingredient used in these meals confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Whole genome sequencing linked the contamination to an ongoing outbreak associated with prepared pasta meals, which FSIS is investigating in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal issues. In pregnant women, infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening illness in newborns. The infection is treatable with antibiotics.

FSIS urges consumers who have purchased these products not to eat them. Instead, they should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. The agency is concerned that some products may still be in consumers' homes.

Consumers with questions can contact Nate's Fine Foods at 916-677-7303, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST.

FSIS continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
