Royal Caribbean Started Building Its New Oasis Class Ship: Here’s What Cruisers Can Expect
  • Royal Caribbean has begun construction on its seventh Oasis Class cruise ship at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France, with a steel-cutting ceremony marking the start of the project.

Royal Caribbean started building its all-new Oasis Class cruise ship, the seventh of the fleet. A steel-cutting ceremony was held at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, to kick off construction.

Royal Caribbean and Chantiers de l'Atlantique representatives, engineers, architects, designers, and other industry innovators were in attendance to commemorate bringing "lucky number seven to life" by 2028, according to a Royal Caribbean press release .

"The next Oasis Class gamechanger is officially on the way... Stay tuned for more details as visions become reality," Royal Caribbean wrote on Instagram.

Royal Caribbean has not yet shared a name for the new ship or details about its expected features or amenities. But if it's anything like the six other ships in the Oasis Class fleet, it's sure to impress.

Oasis of the Seas was the first of the record-setting Oasis Class fleet, followed by Allure of the Seas , Harmony of the Seas,Symphony of the Seas , Wonder of the Seas , and, most recently, Utopia of the Seas , which just launched last year.

Utopia of the Seas alone features five pools, eight hot tubs, three waterslides, and two casinos with nearly 30 table games and over 370 slot machines. Vacationers are also spoiled for choice of 21 dining venues and 23 bars. That's even more than Wonder of the Seas ' 13 bars and lounges.

While cruisers wait on word from Royal Caribbean about the new vessel's look, amenities, and travel plans, they can be sure that it'll offer a robust nightlife and family-friendly activities of all kinds. After all, Royal Caribbean cruise ships are renowned for their seemingly ceaseless entertainment and relaxation options—from surf simulators and whirlpools to adults-only Solariums, specialty spas, and evening shows.

For now, Royal Caribbean's Instagram followers continue to guess the new name—from Legacy of the Seas to Siren of the Seas —and share their hopes for open views at the Windjammer, the cruise line's main buffet restaurant, offering a complimentary self-serve dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
