San Jose police arrest 8 in June shooting that killed man

San Jose police have arrested eight people in connection with a June shooting that killed one man and wounded another, authorities said Friday.

The arrests stem from a June 28 shooting near North Market and West Santa Clara streets, where officers found 24-year-old Antoony Contreras suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers took a second person to a hospital in stable condition. 

Police arrested the suspects Wednesday, police said. Izaiah Hernandez, 18; Ezequiel Mercado, 20; Jaden Diaz-Mejia, 18; Fabian Diaz-Gomez, 18 and Johnny Picazo, 36 were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder, police said.

A 17-year-old suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder, according to police. Two other adults, 34-year-old Sebastian Saldana and 18-year-old Nevaeh Luna-Rosales were booked into the county jail on suspicion of being accessories after the fact. 

Authorities have not disclosed what role each suspect allegedly played in the shooting. The motive and circumstances remain under investigation.

The killing was San Jose's 13th homicide of the year, police said.
