Shut down since 2025 flood, Kerr County bridge finally open again

After consecutive floods and more than a year of work, Kerr County officials have reopened Cade Loop Bridge, reconnecting a key roadway for residents south of the Guadalupe River.
The bridge, which is on Cade Loop, just off Texas 39 near the Ingram Dam, closed after the July 2025 flood due to"instability reasons," according to county officials .

For the 16 months since, residents in the area had to take Rio Vista Road as an alternate route to get across the river. The road includes a one-lane low-water crossing that has no guard rails.
"Any rain at all and those people were landlocked," Kerr County Commissioner Tom Jones said on Friday.
The July 16 flood this year left debris on the bridge, but it didn't cause more damage the structure, Jones said. County officials were "scared to death" they might have to replace the bridge.
"It it shifted it a little further than it was, but no more substantial damage than what you already had," he said.
The Cade Loop Bridge was temporarily opened for traffic earlier this week, but then closed again on Thursday and Friday for paving, according to county officials. It is expected to be fully open for traffic on Saturday.
"I feel like we should have ought to have a tent circus celebrating it," Jones said.
Repairs to the bridge will cost the county more than $1 million, Jones said - but 75 % of that will be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Replacing the bridge would have cost $6 million, an expense that "wouldn't be responsible," Jones said.
