Social Security to issue 2 payments for some next month. Here’s what to know
Some beneficiaries will see two payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) this October.
This is due to the calendar schedule, which has adjusted the payment date for November.
People receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get their first payment on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and a second payment on Friday, Oct. 30.
The second October payment is issued early to cover the November compensation, as Nov. 1 falls on a Saturday.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs-based program that provides monthly payments to people with limited income and resources who are age 65 or older or have a disability. Children with disabilities or who are blind may also qualify.
Although SSI payments are typically made on the first day of each month, the schedule is adjusted when the first day falls on a weekend or a federal holiday. This results in two SSI checks in a single month and none in the next.
Two payments will also be issued in December. This does not mean extra money is being offered to beneficiaries.
