Springfield man arrested for Main Street stabbing death
SPRINGFIELD — A 36-year-old city resident has been charged with stabbing a man to death Monday night in the North End.
Hector Lopez, of Springfield, is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Wednesday on the charge of murder and on several motor vehicle violations, said Ryan Walsh, Springfield Police Department spokesman.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was found suffering from a severe wound near 2800 Main St. at about 10:30 p.m. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance and died later that night, he said.
Homicide detectives received information about the suspect while they were collecting evidence at the scene. They found Lopez a few blocks away and arrested him on an outstanding warrant for motor vehicle charges, including operating with a suspended registration, Walsh said.
As the probe continued, detectives received more information and applied for a warrant to charge Lopez with murder Tuesday, Walsh said.
