At about 10:40 p.m. Nov. 30, officers responded to the 0-100 block of Home Street for a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers located an adult male gunshot victim, later identified as 27-year-old Shain West, of Springfield — inside an apartment.

West was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Homicide Unit, under the direction of Capt. Trent Duda, identified 21-year-old Daevon Shular, of Seguin, Texas, as a suspect shortly after, arresting him Monday.

Shular was taken privately to the hospital on the day of the shooting with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said. On Monday, Springfield police arrested Shular at Baystate in connection with the shooting.
