Clinton police arrested a suspect Monday morning after the FBI alerted the department of a threat made against a local school on social media, according to Clinton Superintendent Steven Meyer.

The social media post, which "appeared to be a potential threat to one of our schools," was reported to the FBI, Meyer said in a press release . The FBI immediately responded by informing Clinton police of the situation.

Clinton police quickly began investigating the matter and identified a suspect, Meyer said. They arrested the suspect a short time later without incident.

"At this time, there is no current threat to the schools; however, the matter remains under investigation," the superintendent wrote.

Neither Meyer nor Clinton police have identified the suspect or provided specifics on the nature of the threat. It is unclear whether investigators deemed the threat substantiated.

No further information has been released.
