Tent collapses under snow at Medford nursing home; two hospitalized
Sunday's snowstorm sent two people in Medford to the hospital after a tent they were under collapsed, police say.
On Sunday evening, Medford police received a call that a tent on the back patio of Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center, 120 Murray St., had collapsed under the weight of the snow, a spokesperson for the department said Monday morning.
Two people were trapped under the tent when it collapsed and it had to be cut for them to be extricated. They were brought to the hospital for treatment but their injuries were not life-threatening.
There was no update available on the victims' condition Monday morning.
The spokesperson said the tent was used for residents of the nursing home to smoke or spend time outside while sheltered from sun and rain, and was not set up for an event.
Some parts of Massachusetts received more than 20 inches of snow Sunday. The storm was expected to continue through Monday afternoon, with the Boston area being hit hardest then, with 2 to 5 inches more expected near the coast.
