Tragedy brings family back to Mansfield in Brighten A Christmas No. 9

The single mother in Brighten A Christmas case No. 9 is struggling to raise her three young sons after tragedy struck the family.

Her father, with whom the family lived at the time, was murdered. One of her sons witnessed the act and is now traumatized. The woman's father provided significant financial help to support her and her children.

The murder happened elsewhere, and she chose to return to Mansfield, where she is from originally.

Mom works at a fast-food restaurant when possible, but lacks reliable childcare support. Her sons have outgrown their clothes and coats, and Mom does not have the money to replace them.

"She is grateful for any assistance that would bring joy to her children this Christmas," wrote the Richland County Job & Family Services employee who nominated the family for a Brighten A Christmas.

Donors who want to help the family in case No. 9 can contribute cash, checks or gift cards at any of the nine locations of Mechanics Bank. They should note the case number on the envelope.

The News Journal has been doing Brighten A Christmas for 78 years. We partner with Job & Family Services, the New Store and  Mechanics Bank  on the campaign.
