Trial in 2024 Springfield high school shooting incident to kick off Friday
SPRINGFIELD — Chantz Dudley will go on trial Friday in connection with a shooting incident last year at the High School of Science and Technology.
Dudley, 21, of Chicopee, allegedly pistol-whipped a schoolmate of a family member and fired a round inside the school as a result.
No one was hit by the bullet, which pierced a window from inside the school. Administrators said Dudley forced his way into the school when a security guard cracked open one of the doors.
His father, Dana Dudley, 45, also was charged in the case, because he organized the confrontation, according to court records. He had carried a knife to the school, records say. A third man, Josiah Livingston, also was charged in the case.
The gunfire followed a large brawl at the State Street school.
Lawyers in the case selected a jury of 15 on Thursday. Final motions and opening arguments will begin Friday morning in Hampden Superior Court.
