Trump directs redeployment of 5,000 troops from Europe

( NewsNation ) — President Donald Trump has directed the Pentagon to redeploy approximately 5,000 troops from Europe, NewsNation has learned.

A senior Pentagon official told NewsNation of the move, which is effective immediately and comes after extensive analysis of U.S. force requirements in Europe.

It will bring U.S. troop levels in Europe back to roughly pre-2022 levels.

“This decision follows a thorough review of the department’s force posture in Europe and is in recognition of theater requirements and conditions on the ground,” chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said.

“We expect the withdrawal to be completed over the next six to 12 months,” he added.

According to the senior official, Europeans have not stepped up when America needed them, and the president has been very clear about his frustrations with the rhetoric of U.S. allies and their failure to provide support for operations.

The official added recent German rhetoric has been “inappropriate and unhelpful,” and the move aligns with the Trump administration’s priorities in the Western Hemisphere and the Indo-Pacific.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Monday the U.S. was being “humiliated” by the situation in Iran.

“An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards,” Merz said to a group of students.
