Is Trump hiding something? Almost half of Americans think he’s not being honest about his health

Almost half of Americans believe President Donald Trump is vague when it comes to revealing information about his personal health.

A new YouGov poll conducted on Sept. 2 found that 49% of U.S. adults said the 47th president has not provided enough information about his health, while 29% said he has.

Just 22% of respondents reported being unsure.

When broken down by party, 60% adults who identify as republicans say Trump has been transparent with his health. In comparison, 24% of adults who identify as independents and just 4% of adults who identify as democrats say the same thing.

Only 16% of republicans say Trump isn't providing enough details about his physical health. Among independents, 48% said Trump has not provided enough details, while 83% of democrats responded similarly.

The poll was released at a time when rumors of Trump being sick or even dead had spread like wildfire.

Until Tuesday, the president had not made a public appearance for six days, leading to a flurry of posts on social media questioning whether he was alive or dead.

Influencers on TikTok concluded the White House had been publishing old photos, suggesting that the president was being hidden from the press, according to the New York Times . Photos of Trump with a bruised hand and swollen ankles made the rounds on X as questions rose about the president's health.

Trump, 79, was asked about the rumors of his death by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy on Tuesday .

"I didn't see that. I have heard. It's sort of crazy, but last week, I did numerous news conferences. All successful, they went very well. Like this is going very well," Trump said. "And then I didn't do any for two days, and they said, 'There must be something wrong with him.'"

While rumors of Trump's demise were greatly exaggerated during Labor Day weekend, the YouGov poll found that a plurality of Americans (38%) believe the president's age and health severely limit his ability to do his job. A total of 21% said Trump's age and health would have only a limited effect on his job performance, while 26% said the two factors have no impact. Only 15% said they were unsure.

In the event Trump dies in office, Vice President JD Vance would assume the office of the president.

The YouGov poll found 45% of adults believing Vance was not qualified to be president if it were necessary that he be sworn into the role. A total of 37% of adults said he was qualified, while 18% said they were unsure.

Only eight U.S. presidents have died in office, with four of them (Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy) killed by an assassin and the other four (William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Warren G. Harding and Franklin D. Roosevelt) dying of natural causes.

The YouGov poll featured a sample size of 1,678 U.S. adults.
