Trump ponders idea of wearing bulletproof vest after shooting
( NewsNation ) — President Donald Trump appeared to reject the idea of wearing a bulletproof vest following multiple assassination attempts , though he did say he had been asked about it.
NewsNation White House Correspondent Libbey Dean asked Trump if there were talks about the president wearing protective armor, considering the attempts on his life.
“I don’t know if I could handle looking 20 pounds heavier,” he joked.
Most recently, a gunman attempted to enter the White House correspondents’ dinner, and authorities say his goal was to shoot the president.

The president also faced two assassination attempts while on the campaign trail leading up to the 2024 election.
Trump praised the bulletproof vest worn by a Secret Service agent who was shot during the latest attempt.
“The vest did an amazing job, it took the bullet close up, and he didn’t even want to go to the hospital,” Trump said.
He acknowledged that he had been asked about wearing a vest for his safety.
“I’ve been asked about that, and I guess it’s something to consider,” Trump said. “In a way, you don’t like to do it, because you’re giving into a bad element.”
“How concerned are you about it happening again, another assassination attempt?” Dean asked the president.
“I don’t think about it,” Trump said. “And if I did, I wouldn’t be doing a very good job here, I’d be thinking about nothing but that.”
