Trump reviewing new proposal from Iran
US President Donald Trump will review a plan submitted by Iran to end the war, he said on Saturday.
"I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years," he wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
While an indefinite ceasefire between the sides is holding, talks on turning the truce into a permanent agreement have stalled amid sharp disagreements over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
On Friday, Iranian state news agency IRNA said Tehran had submitted a new proposal to the US via mediators in Pakistan.
Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had also informed counterparts in the region in several phone calls about “new initiatives related to ending the war.”
No details of the initiative have been disclosed.
The US and Israel began their joint attacks on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with counter-attacks on Israel and Gulf states and has also largely blocked the Strait of Hormuz, vital for global trade.
