Trump White House makes serious accusation against Kamala Harris

The White House accused Kamala Harris of "inciting violence" against President Donald Trump on Monday, citing a recent interview in which she referred to him as a "tyrant" and compared him to "communist dictators."

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow recently sat down with the former vice president to discuss the state of the nation during her first interview since losing the 2024 presidential election.

On Monday, a White House social media account criticized comments Harris made about President Trump during the interview, posting a clip of her remarks and calling them "sick."

"Right now we are dealing with, as I called him [during a previous speech], a tyrant," the clip shows Harris saying to Maddow. "We used to compare the strength of our democracy to communist dictators. That's what we're dealing with in Donald Trump."

Harris' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.

At the time, the former vice president was responding to a question from Maddow about a comment she made in a new political memoir about her experience as a presidential nominee. In "107 Days," which Harris cowrote with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Geraldine Brooks, the Democrat writes of her surprise at the willingness of powerful CEOs to "capitulate" to Trump's demands in recent months.

"I always believed that if push came to shove, those titans of industry would be guardrails for our democracy, for the importance of sustaining democratic institutions. And one by one by one, they have been silent," she said earlier in her response. " ... And here's the thing — democracy sustains capitalism. Capitalism thrives in a democracy."

After the "tyrant" comment, Harris explained why she thinks the CEOs of the country's largest companies aren't "speaking up" against the president and his agenda when it isn't favorable to their interests.

"Perhaps it is because his threats and the way he's used the weight of the federal government to take out vengeance on his critics is something that they fear, and I get that. I understand why they do. We've seen the demonstration of it," she said.

This particular White House social media account, which describes part of its purpose as "holding the Fake News accountable," called back to the two assassination attempts against the president in making its case against Harris.

The account's post echos arguments Trump and his supporters have made in the wake of the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk that "radical" rhetoric from the left is leading to politically motivated violence. Harris did not make an explicit or implicit call for violence during the interview.
