UTV rollover crash involving Mass. driver leaves two children and a man injured
A Massachusetts man crashed a UTV in New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon, injuring a man and two children who were passengers in the vehicle, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
Around 1:40 p.m., 52-year-old Groton resident Timothy Dailey lost control of the four-seater UTV he was driving on Old Country Lane in Pittsburg, the fish and game department said in a Thursday press release . Dailey accelerated while trying to make a left turn in a gravel pit, causing the vehicle to drift and roll onto its side.
Daily was not injured in the crash, but a 44-year-old New Hampshire man who was riding in the front passenger seat was seriously injured, the department said. Two children, aged 8 and 11, who were riding in the UTV's back seats also received minor injuries.
A 911 call was made from the scene shortly after the crash, and conservation officers, firefighters and paramedics from Pittsburg and other communities responded, the department said. Firefighters brought the passengers to awaiting ambulances, and the man who was seriously injured was taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook for treatment.
Conservation officers investigated the incident and determined that Dailey's acceleration while turning was the primary cause of the crash, the department said. He was issued a summons on one count of operating an off-highway recreational vehicle (OHRV) to endanger.
"Conservation Officers would like to use this incident to remind OHRV enthusiasts to always operate in a controlled manner with consideration for the safety of all occupants," the department wrote in the release.
