Van crashes into ICE vehicle while being chased in Mass. town, police say
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle was struck by a van that agents were pursuing during a car chase in Medway Wednesday morning, according to Medway police.
Medway Police officers responded to the intersection of West and Fisher Streets shortly before 8 a.m. for reports of unmarked police vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed, the police department said in a press release . One 911 caller also reported that a white van had crashed with an ICE vehicle on Fisher Street.
At the scene, ICE agents told Medway police officers that a white van had fled from them after they tried to pull it over on Route 109 in Milford, police said. The van hit an ICE vehicle with agents inside before continuing east into Medway via West Street.
After turning onto Fisher Street in Medway, the van's driver and passenger jumped out of the still-moving van, police said. The van then left the roadway and crashed near some high-tension lines.
ICE agents chased after the driver and passenger on foot before searching the area, but failed to find them, police said. No one was injured in the crashes.
ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday afternoon.
"The Medway Police Department was not involved in the enforcement operation other than assisting with traffic control and facilitating the vehicle's removal to safely reopen the roadway," the department wrote in the release.
No further information about the incident has been released.
