Walmart and Target are being accused of discreetly removing price tags from items.

Shoppers have noticed that price tags are missing on items such as underwear, jeans and children's apparel, the New York Post reported. Employees responded to the claims via social media, saying the speculations are true, adding that it has to do with unannounced price hikes related to looming tariffs.

"Spent almost a whole 8-hour shift just doing this," one TikTok user captioned a post showing herself in a Target uniform, tearing off price tags.

Another user at Walmart echoed the sentiment in a post on TikTok , writing, "Can it just come in without prices already?!? Processing/working freight takes longer just because of the tariffs and prices going up."

On Aug. 31, Walmart confirmed to The Sun that a labeling process change had occurred but did not directly link it to tariffs.

"As we strive to provide the best value for our customers while remaining flexible and competitive, earlier this year, we implemented a change to our labeling process for some items," the chain said in a statement to the media outlet. "Customers will now see prices for some items displayed on peg or shelf instead of hang tags."

Walmart also said that "Some hang tags will also be stickers versus printed."
