Western Mass. man, teenager die in separate crashes, both still under investigation
A man from Hadley and a Hatfield teenager died after they were both hurt in separate crashes on Sunday, Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan's office said.
Before 12 p.m. on Sunday, a car driven by a teenage boy, 17, rolled over and struck a fire hydrant on Greenfield Road in Deerfield, Sullivan's office said in a statement.
The teenager had a passenger with him, who was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries, Sullivan's office said. Deerfield police, Massachusetts State Police detectives with Sullivan's office and the State Police troopers with the Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are investigating the crash.
Later, shortly after 9 p.m., the Hadley man, 82, was struck by two cars on Route 9, near 73 Russell Road in Hadley, Sullivan's office said in the same statement. State Police detectives, along with Hadley police, are investigating the crash.
