Western Mass. pond could reopen if water sample is cleared after possible dirty diaper
A Wilbraham pond is expected to reopen on Wednesday after it was closed for two days because of a possibly used diaper.
The pond at the Spectacle Pond Recreation Area was closed on Monday and Wednesday because of "what looked like a diaper" in the water, Wilbraham Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Litz told MassLive.
"So we played it safe," Litz said about the closure.
A test sample of the water will be tested in a lab to make sure the pond is safe to enter, Litz said. Should the results show the water is safe, the pool is expected to reopen at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
"The pond cannot reopen until test results permit, but our test results have been great all summer, well below the requirement to shut down," Litz added.
On Tuesday, 37 beaches across Massachusetts were closed to the public, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health . Most of these beaches were closed due to high levels of bacteria in the water, while others were closed due to harmful cyanobacteria, or algae, blooms.
