Worcester mall reopens after fire
A Worcester mall that closed due to a fire in early September has reopened as of Wednesday.
@ The Common, formerly known as The Midtown Mall, experienced a fire during a bout of severe weather on Sept. 6. MassLive previously asked Assistant Fire Chief Adam Roche whether the weather was the cause of the fire but it was not confirmed. The Worcester Fire Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.
Felicio Lana, the owner of the mall at 22 Front St, told MassLive that some of the businesses at @ The Common have reopened, too.
The Clock Beer & Wine, WooJuice, the clothing store known as Concrete Collection, Evil Eye Tattoo and Worcester Common Fitness are welcoming customers once again, according to Lana.
In terms of repairs, Lana said that fixing the mall's electrical gears and electrical vault are a priority. The costs are estimated to be somewhere between $300,000 and $500,000, the owner told MassLive.
Two businesses at the mall, Odd By Worcester Brewing and the ramen restaurant Broth, both sustained significant water damage due to firefighting efforts, according to owner Jay Grey.
Grey launched a GoFundMe to help raise money for his staff and vendors while his businesses are closed. The goal for the GoFundMe is $5,000, according to the website.
As of Wednesday, $3,380 has been raised from 56 donations.
Grey did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.
