Florida A&M University's Board of Trustees has a new addition after Governor Ron DeSantis recently appointed FAMU alumnus and Tallahassee native Michael White to the board.

The appointment was made Friday with White replacing trustee and fellow alumnus Michael Dubose — president of Thermo Fisher Scientific — whose term expired in January after he joined the board in 2020 to complete an unexpired term, according to the university.

Being named a new FAMU trustee makes White's appointment to FAMU's board the fourth one in the last four months following the appointments of trustees Deveron Gibbons and Natlie Figgers in March as well as trustee John Crossman in June.

The FAMU Board of Trustees holds committee meetings on Wednesday June 7, 2023.

"As a proud Rattler, I am honored to have received this distinguished appointment by Governor DeSantis," White said in a university release. "I look forward to contributing to developing the university's policies and programs to ensure they build upon the legacy of FAMU."

White earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from FAMU's School of Business and Industry in 2013.

He is the co-founder and chief business development officer of Indelible Solutions , a Jacksonville-based management consulting company that provides services to private and public sector organizations across the country.

Before White's role at the consulting firm, he worked for the Florida Department of Education and the Department of Financial Services as a professional account specialist.

The businessman is also a finalist for the 2023 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

"We welcome alum Michael White as a member of the FAMU Board of Trustees," FAMU President Larry Robinson said in a prepared statement. "His talent and entrepreneurial drive will be assets to the university as we strive to become one of America's top 100 public universities."

While White joins the board, this also means that Dubose is no longer in the running for vice chair after Trustee Otis Cliatt II nominated him for the role during a June meeting.

The only other nominee for vice chair is Trustee Deveron Gibbons, which would make him the unopposed successor of Trustee Kristin Harper for the role as Harper is in line to move up and become chair of the board.

White's appointment to the university's board is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
