Kerry Augustin, City Hall employee, joins Boston mayoral race
A 26-year-old City Hall employee has joined the race for mayor of Boston.
Kerry Augustin, who, according to the Boston Herald , works as a receptionist for the city's Age Strong Commission, filed paperwork this week with the state's Office of Campaign and Political Finance to run against Mayor Michelle Wu.
On his campaign website , Augustin lists his priorities as creating and protecting housing for all residents, enhancing public safety and improving public transit. He has also proposed creating a city-funded volunteer force to improve neighborhoods and help seniors with tasks such as snow removal and garbage management.
"People are struggling, and too many of the folks in charge are out of touch or out of reach," Augustin wrote in his candidate bio. "I've seen what it's like when rent eats half your paycheck. When schools go underfunded year after year. When entire neighborhoods feel like they're being pushed out. And I know I'm not alone — that's the Boston too many of us are living in."
Augustin was raised in Boston by immigrant parents, according to his website. He attended Massasoit Community College and then Bridgewater State University, the Herald reported.
Augustin is the fourth candidate to enter the race. Wu's first official challenger was Josh Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Kraft officially filed paperwork at City Hall on Wednesday.
Local activist Domingos DaRosa has also said he is running in the 2025 race.
Wu told reporters during an unrelated event Wednesday morning that she would also be officially pulling papers that afternoon.
"I really love election season because in some ways, it is a time when everybody makes a little bit of extra space in their lives with all the things they have going on, just carving out a little bit more time to pay attention to city government," she said.
