May 22—LIMA — The city of Lima has announced the opening date for the new Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in the downtown district. After being approved by the city council in April, the DORA is set to open on Friday, June 7 at 5 p.m.

The DORA will allow those who are visiting downtown Lima to purchase and carry alcoholic beverages within the designated area, which covers the North and Main Street corridor, the Market Street corridor, and the central business district.

Visitors can purchase a DORA cup from participating establishments in the area, including 318 Restaurant and Bar, The MET, Amy's Waiting Room, Zinum 12, Lombardo's Cafe, Veteran's Memorial Civic and Convention Center, and Purple Feet Wine Boutique upon opening. Once a DORA cup is purchased, it can be taken into any of the business participants to be refilled.

"I look forward to this list of participating establishments growing as I hear back and receive more orders from more places and as our downtown welcomes new businesses and just grows in general and has more development," said Downtown Lima Executive Director Shaunna Basinger.

To compensate for an expected increase in traffic downtown, the city is bringing in more trash cans to help keep the DORA clean.

"We want to have a beautiful downtown and a beautiful city, and that starts with all of us as we're walking around," Basinger said.

The DORA will be open from noon to midnight, seven days a week, and the opening will coincide with the first "First Friday" of the summer in downtown Lima. Basinger said that more details about First Friday events and activities will be released within the next week.
