Man who reported robbery is 1 of 2 charged
One of the suspects arraigned yesterday in the robbery of a McDonald's restaurant on East Main Street was the employee who originally reported the crime.
Matthew Giunta, 18, of 58 Pine Grove, Lunenburg, was arrested Wednesday at the McDonald's restaurant where he worked, according to police. He was charged with masked armed robbery and larceny of property.
According to a police press release, Mr. Giunta was part of a "joint enterprise" that included planning and staging the robbery, which took place on Tuesday, shortly after midnight.
Mr. Giunta and his manager were restrained with zip ties after two masked men, one of whom brandished a semiautomatic handgun, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from an office vault.
Mr. Giunta told police the men approached him as he took out the trash at closing time. The manager and Mr. Giunta contacted police after they freed themselves from the restraints.
The public relations firm representing McDonald's Corp. did not return inquiries about the incident.
Also arrested Wednesday were Charles A. Young, 18, of 4 Mount Lebanon St., Pepperell, and Jared B. Quigley of 11 Yvonne Drive, Pepperell.
