Peter Jones named to FSU’s Board of Trustees
The Florida Board of Governors has appointed Florida State University alumnus Peter Jones to FSU's Board of Trustees , effective immediately.
Jones's appointment to his alma mater was made during the board's meeting Thursday on the University of North Florida's campus in Jacksonville.
Jones, a Clearwater native, graduated from FSU with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1977 and is the past president and chairman of Franklin Templeton , which is a global investment management company.
His decades-long career with the company ended with his retirement in 2015 after serving as president of Franklin Templeton Distributors, Inc. from 1989 to 2015 and chair of Franklin Templeton Institutional, LLC from 2007 to 2015. After retiring, Jones became an adjunct professor at FSU for several years and taught finance classes in the university's study abroad program in London, England and Valencia, Spain over four summers.
Jones's many FSU involvements include being a member of the FSU Foundation and chair of the FSU International Program Association's Audit Committee. Also, Jones is a 2018 inductee of the FSU College of Business's Hall of Fame and also served on the Investment Advisory Council for the Florida State Board of Administration.
As Jones joins the university's board, FSU trustees John Thiel and Bob Sasser are members whose term expired this month. No announcement has been made regarding their status. Although Jones's immediate start date on FSU's board is Thursday, his appointment awaits confirmation by the Florida Senate.
