Though she wrote a heartfelt caption about the occasion, there were numerous users who couldn't get over how 'tacky' they thought the statue tribute was. Kristi Noem Attends Her Statue Unveiling In A Blazer And Jeans

There are a lot of political leaders who've been honored by having statues of them put up, often in their hometowns or places where they achieved great things.

The former secretary of Homeland Security's life-size bronze statue was unveiled on August 7th in Pierre, South Dakota, where it was added to the state's popular Trail of Governors. The statue was put up to honor Kristi's time as South Dakota's governor and portrays her standing alongside her horse, Iceman. In addition to showing off the new statue, the unveiling also included the presentation of her official portrait.

For the statue event, Kristi kept her look simple and polished. She wore a black blazer over a white top, pairing it with blue jeans and brown pointed-toe shoes. She completed the look with minimal jewelry and a natural makeup look, keeping the overall outfit established but casual. Her long, blonde hair was worn down in loose waves, while she finished the look with a bright smile for photos at the event.

"Everywhere I looked, there were people I loved and family and friends who have stood by our family for years as we served the people of South Dakota," she wrote about the ceremony on Instagram . "Thank you all for a day centered on honoring our freedom, our great state, the Lord's faithfulness and our future with great leadership."

Fans & Other Users React To Kristi's Statue Reveal On Social Media

Though there were some fans of the controversial political figure, who has recently been dubbed "ICE Barbie" due to the way she previously carried out President Trump's immigration policies , there were other social media users who were totally against the raising of her statue.

Lots of the backlash was triggered by two of the biggest controversies of her political career and personal life, from the scandal involving her shooting one of her dogs to the violent practices carried out by ICE agents while she was acting as the Secretary of Homeland Security.

On Instagram, where Kristi called the statue and unveiling "memorable and special," other users began to comment that they thought it was "tacky" and more.

"How tacky," commented an Instagram user.

"[I] didn't know we honor failures," wrote another.

"You are an absolute joke," an angry user wrote. "You are an embarrassment to South Dakota and the USA."

"Why?" asked a user. "And who paid for this?"
