House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Sunday that he has yet to hear from President Donald Trump, though he is expected to be the next speaker of the House.

Speaking on ABC's "This Week," the New York Democrat said, "I have not spoken to President Trump. It was a big night for the American people. A tremendous repudiation of MAGA extremism, and a cry out for dramatic change."

Host Jonathan Karl said that he thought that by this time, a president would have reached out to the next speaker of the House.

"Well, we'll see what happens in terms of moving forward," Jeffries said. "But I have spoken to three former presidents, and I'm thankful for those conversations. Of course, President Obama, President Biden, and President Clinton, and many other leaders across the nation."

Jeffries did not say whether he had tried to contact Trump.

Though not every race has been called, Democrats will have at least 254 out of 435 seats in the next House, having gained dozens of seats in Tuesday's midterms. Democrats came out of the 2008 elections with 257 seats; if they top 260 this year, it would be the largest House majority since the 1990 elections. Republicans have not won more than 250 seats since the 1928 elections.
