Poll: Latino voters in CD8 sour on Trump, critical of Evans ahead of midterms

Latino voters in Colorado's 8th Congressional District are broadly pessimistic about the country's direction and increasingly critical of President Trump's job performance, according to new polling from the 2026 Latino Policy Agenda Survey.

The results show increased criticism toward Trump as well as Republican Congressman Gabe Evans, who was endorsed by the president and leaned heavily on that support during his election bid in 2024.

Voters showed sharp shifts from the time polling was last conducted in 2025 by BSP Research on behalf of left-leaning Hispanic advocacy organizations including Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR Latina) and Voces Unidas.

The polling was done across the state of Hispanic voters with an oversample in CD-8, widely considered one of the most competitive congressional districts in the country. The district, which stretches from Greeley to Commerce City, is made up of roughly 40% Hispanic voters and has been one of the most critical races in the nation for determining which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives.

CD-8 voter shifts

The polling discovered that 68% of Latino respondents said the country is headed in the wrong direction, compared with 18% who said it's headed in the right direction. When asked about Trump specifically, 70% of CD-8 respondents disapproved of his job performance so far this term, including 53% who said they strongly disapproved.

More than one-third of respondents blamed the president for the cost of living and another 44% said their financial situation had worsened over the past year.

Polling suggests uphill battle for Evans re-election

Overall, Rep. Evans posted a net-negative approval rating among Latino voters. The polling is significant, as Evans is just the second person to represent the district. He will go up against Latino challenger Colorado State Rep. Manny Rutinel, who won the Democratic primary election by a large margin. Forty-two percent of respondents surveyed said they disapproved of Evans specifically.

"We are seeing more saliency in some of the economic concerns, some of the frustrations of Latinos and Latinas in CD-8, just like the rest of the state," said Alex Sánchez, President and CEO of Voces Unidas. "CD-8, being more important because of the high percentage of Latinas and Latinos."

Looking ahead to November, 51% of respondents said they plan to support the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House, while 29% said they plan to support the Republican candidate. If the polling proves to be accurate, Evans will have to make inroads with about 15% who said they remained undecided and another 24% who responded they were unsure about their approval of Evans overall.
