President Trump Regrets Picking Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanaugh for Supreme Court: ‘Chance of a Lifetime’

- President Trump expresses regret over appointing Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, citing their voting patterns against him.
President Donald Trump says he'd likely make different choices if he could redo his Supreme Court nominations from his first term.
In a Monday, September 28 interview with Time Magazine , the 80-year-old president admitted he regrets appointing Neil Gorsuch , Amy Coney Barrett , and Brett Kavanaugh to the high court.
"What can I do? I put them in," he said. "They voted against me too often. I was very — I gave them the position of a lifetime, and they vote against me often. They vote for me too."
"I gave them the chance of a lifetime, and it's unfortunate what they did," he added.
Despite complaining that the liberal justices "stick like glue," he grudgingly admitted he respected what he thought of as their allegiance to the presidents who nominated them.
"The Democrats stick like glue — those three, they virtually never vary. You can come up with the worst thing in the world and they'll vote as a group. And while I don't like it, there's something I admire about it: there's loyalty. So they have loyalty to Barack Hussein Obama . They have loyalty to [Joe] Biden ."

The article referred to a Truth Social outburst two weeks earlier, when Trump lashed out at Gorsuch, 59, Barrett, 54, and Kavanaugh, 61, for ruling against his executive order that would have restricted how mail-in voting is handled. He claimed the court had been "bullied and cajoled by the Radical left" and was "merely a shell of their former selves."
Even some Republicans thought he went too far. Senator John Kennedy told The Hill on September 18 that he believes the justices "do their very best to call it like they see it and that's their job."
Still, the data doesn't back up Trump's claim that the court often rules against him. According to the Brennan Center for Justice , his administration has asked the Supreme Court for decisions on 32 emergency orders since January 20, 2025. The justices sided with the administration, at least in part, in 80 percent of those cases.
