Trump slammed for ‘heinously racist’ remark to African reporter

President Donald Trump is being slammed for a "heinously racist" remark he made to a reporter from Africa.
Trump in the Oval Office took a question about the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda from Angolan White House correspondent Hariana Verás, per Mediaite.
Veras is recognized as the first African reporter accredited by the White House.
The DRC has faced decades of warfare in its mineral-rich east, where the government accuses neighboring Rwanda of backing the M23 rebel group.
The violence has persisted even though two countries signed a U.S.-brokered peace agreement in June 2025.
"I just came from DRC," Verás told the president. "I was there a month ago, and I witnessed, again, Rwanda still killing a lot of Congolese. Mr. President, if you can do something — "
"And you witnessed it?" Trump interjected.
"Yes, Mr. President," she confirmed. "And I have evidence."
"How is Ebola?" Trump again interrupted. "How is Ebola going?"
"Ebola is under control," responded Verás. "Still, the country needs some help to fight Ebola, but the biggest problem is the war."
"I'll make sure it works out," the president pledged. "That's what I do. I make sure things work out."
Online critics slammed Trump for his Ebola remark.

"Trump gets heinously racist with Africa reporter," wrote one poster on X.
Wrote another, "god how I despise that man..how utterly classless."
But another poster defended the president from the criticism, writing, "Very disingenuous! Trump asked the female reporter about Ebola out of concern. He praised this reporter for doing a good job. He answered all of her questions. I saw this live."
