  • Sen. John Fetterman (R-PA) has been criticized for bashing fellow Democrats, avoiding constituent meetings, and declining to attend the funeral of three police officers in his hometown.

CNN's Abby Phillipasked Republican strategist Tim Parrishif he would welcome Sen. John Fetterman(R-PA) to the GOP after the Democratic senator has repeatedly bashed his own party.

Fetterman has made many appearances on Fox News, where he routinely bashes fellow Democrats and speaks out in favor of Israel and the Iran war. In an interview last month, Sen.  Bernie Sanders(I-VT) called Fetterman's Fox appearances a " sad state of affairs ."

On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal published a damning report that echoed previous stories about Fetterman being uninterested in doing much of the work of a U.S. Senator. In one incident, Fetterman said he was too sick to meet with a group of paralyzed veterans in his office, only to arrive after they left. The senator proceeded to do an interview with Fox News. In another episode, Fetterman complained about children's hospital executives who wanted to meet with him to discuss Medicaid cuts, saying they wanted "free trips to DC." Additionally, Fetterman declined to attend the funeral of three police officers killed in his hometown after learning it was three hours long. He called the length "a nonstarter."

On Friday's CNN NewsNight , Phillip asked GOP operative Scott Jenningsif Fetterman should be paying more attention to his constituents.

"My advice to anyone who gets elected to the U.S. Congress or the Senate is, the number one thing you should spend your time on?  Tending to your constituents, the people," Jennings responded. "The members in either party that have the best constituent services, those are the ones that tend to get reelected and remain popular even in turbulent times. That's true for a long time. And it's true right now."

Phillip then turned to Parrish and asked, "Do you want him?"

"Uh, no," Parrish replied. "He is where he's supposed to be. Millions of Pennsylvanians voted for him."

Parrish went on to note that Pennsylvanians also have a Republican senator in Sen. Dave McCormick.
