Rockets to open Toyota Center for voting on 2024 U.S. Election Day
On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Houston Rockets ' downtown arena of Toyota Center will be open as a voting site for the 2024 U.S. general election. It can only be used by residents of Harris County.
Toyota Center was first used for this purpose during the 2020 election cycle . An initial announcement of those plans came a day after the 2020 NBA playoffs were halted due to civil unrest.
For the 2024 cycle, the Toyota Center site will be open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central on Tuesday. The team is offering free parking in its Tundra Garage, which is located adjacent to the arena, with an accessible ADA entrance going over the skybridge from the garage to the arena.
The main entrance, for voting purposes, will be on Bell Street.
For the Rockets and arena officials, it will be a quick turnaround to transform Toyota Center from its usual game amenities to a voting hub, and vice versa. Houston is hosting a three-game NBA homestand next week, including a game versus the New York Knicks on Monday, Nov. 4 — the night before the election — and a game versus the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, Nov. 6, on the night after the election.
