Royal Expert Says Olive Branch Is Off the Table After King Charles Learns of Surprise Prince Harry Interview
- Prince Harry made his first public appearance since losing his appeal for publicly funded security by giving a tell-all interview with BBC, expressing his desire for reconciliation with his family.
It was quite the week for the royal family! New portraits of King Charles and Queen Camilla were revealed, Kate Middleton debuted a stunning new hairstyle and the king was joined by Prince William and his family to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day .
But the biggest news of all? Prince Harry making his first public appearance since losing his appeal for publicly funded security by giving a tell-all interview with BBC .
As PureWow's very own royal expert Rachel Bowie shares, "It's a tough one to watch." Amongst some of the bombshells from the interview, Harry revealed that he currently has no idea about his dad's cancer prognosis , as well as his desire to put an end to the family's painful rift.
"I would love reconciliation with my family," he says. "There's no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile."
But while Harry may want to make amends with his family, Hello !'s royal editor Emily Nash says that after his surprise interview, a reconciliation is unlikely.
In an episode of A Right Royal Podcast , the co-host and royal expert explains that the king felt as though he was unable to interfere in Harry's legal case and that it would be "unconstitutional" to do so. "His son is suing His Majesty's government, you know he needed to stay right out of this situation," she notes.
"But once that had concluded, there was potentially a path to some kind of rapprochement, some kind of olive branch being offered," Nash adds. "And I get the sense that that was the mood music, but that really quickly got switched off once the interview landed."
As Hello! reports, the royal expert no longer believes that olive branch is on the table.

According to the outlet, the royal family were briefly made aware of the interview shortly before it aired. But considering the somewhat frosty statement that a palace spokesperson shared in response to Harry's interview, Nash may be right that a reconcillation is unlikely. Per People , the statement simply read: "All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion."
So while Harry may be ready to make peace, it seems that at least for now, the palace gates remain firmly closed.
