Donuts Recalled Nationwide Following Reported Illness
- Kroger has issued a recall for Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts due to undeclared milk, affecting product distributed nationwide and through Amazon.com.
A common response to all the recent recalls concerning nutrient-packed foods, such as lettuce or berries , has been, "At least it's not affecting donuts!" Well, we hate to tell you, but the latest recall notice from the U.S. Food and Administration (FDA) does indeed involve donuts.
Last week, Kroger posted a warning on donuts with a September 15, 2026 expiration. By Tuesday, August 25, the event on the same brand had expanded to what the FDA says is a recall affecting product that was "distributed to retailers nationwide and through Amazon.com."
Latest recall details
The recall is for Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts in 10 mini-donut packages of 7.05-ounce pouches with UPC 3 50041 39210 3 and lot number 26078 .
The announcement says consumers may return the donuts to place of purchase, or dispose of the product and show proof of purchase for a refund.
Interestingly, the announcement says the product was distributed in March 2026. It's unclear whether it is kept frozen in retailer storage until the September 2026 expiration.
What caused the recall?
The FDA says the recall was executed "after one allergic reaction was reported in connection with the recalled product," reportedly due to the presence of milk when the major food allergen was not declared on the label. According to Mayo Clinic experts, an allergic reaction to milk can range from mild symptoms, such as wheezing, hives , or digestive issues, to life-threatening anaphylaxis .
"The individual has fully recovered," the announcement reads, adding: "The contract manufacturer has identified the cause of the mislabeling issue and has taken corrective measures."
