Neighbor shares heartbreak after mother, 2 children killed in Las Vegas shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Days after a man allegedly shot and killed a Las Vegas mother and her two children, a neighbor is continuing to grieve the family she knew.
Juan Orona is accused of killing 41-year-old Nohani Flores Osuna and her two children, 16-year-old Maiya Deleon Flores and 7-year-old Noah Morales Flores.

Neighbor Patricia Ramirez, who knew the family, is left trying to make sense of a tragedy she never expected.
"I mean, they were the best people we've been neighbors for over two years," Ramirez told 8 News Now.
Ramirez said Nohani and her children were part of the community, making the violence that happened even more difficult to understand.
Police said Orona killed Osuna and her two children inside an apartment in the 5100 block of O'Bannon Drive, near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard on Tuesday night, according to an arrest report.
Orona turned himself in after contacting police at 7:10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1. His father drove him to the Southeast Area Command, where he was interviewed and placed in custody.
Detectives said Orona later told them he was angry after Osuna admitted she had slept with an ex-boyfriend. Orona said that he "blacked out" and when he came to, " he was holding his Glock 9MM handgun in the bathroom and Nohani and her children's bodies were on the ground," according to the arrest report.
"I would see Noah, the teenage daughter, the mother, and the father. I mean, they were really nice people. The little boy would play with my granddaughter," Ramirez said.
Orona told family members he lost control of himself after confronting his girlfriend, according to the report.

Ramirez said she remembered seeing that same type of truck that police identified as Orona's at Osuna's apartment just a few weeks prior to the shooting.
"I didn't know she had a new boyfriend. All I know is that a guy in a black car came and helped her move out," Ramirez said.
Metro police said that so far this year, 20 homicides reported in its jurisdiction have been connected to domestic violence, making up nearly a third of the homicides reported so far this year.
Orona faces a total of 13 felony charges, including three counts of murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9.
