Victoria Heuermann, the daughter of convicted Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, reported for jury duty on Long Island but was dismissed after a judge learned who she was. The 30-year-old was being considered for a Nassau County child sexual abuse trial when the court decided her presence could become a "distraction," according to Greater Long Island's account of Newsday's reporting .

Victoria Heuermann initially went unrecognized by State Supreme Court Justice Robert McDonald, the prosecutor and the defense attorney. During jury selection, however, she was asked whether she knew anyone who had been convicted of a crime. That question eventually revealed her connection to the Gilgo Beach case, Us Weekly reported .

The potential juror then spoke privately with the judge about whether she could remain fair despite her father's criminal history. Her attorney, Robert Macedonio, said she believed she could be impartial and was willing to serve. Still, she was removed from consideration, according to coverage of the unusual jury selection .

Macedonio said Victoria Heuermann was nervous about returning to a courtroom following the intense attention surrounding her father's case. He said he had even offered to write a letter asking that she be excused from jury duty, but she answered the court's questions honestly and maintained that she could be fair, according to this account of the jury selection .

The attention follows one of Long Island's most notorious criminal cases. Rex Heuermann pleaded guilty to murdering seven women and admitted killing an eighth. His daughter's brief appearance in another courtroom shows how attention surrounding the Gilgo Beach murders continues to follow his family, as Greater Long Island reported .
