Son of Sam serial killer David Berkowitz claims he's headed to heaven despite his bloody 1970s New York City murder spree that left six young people dead.
In a written message from his cell in the maximum-security Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County, NY, the 72-year-old former U.S. postal worker exclaimed to The New York Post he was "already free," and "my home is in heaven, not in the Bronx."
The shocking declaration comes nearly 50 years after the mass murderer's reign of terror in 1976 and '77 held New York in a vise-like grip, as he gunned down six innocents and left seven more wounded.
As the world knows, Berkowitz famously left letters at his crime scenes and sent others to the cops and the New York Daily News in which he claimed he received his deadly direction from a demon who'd inhabited the body of his neighbor Sam Carr's Labrador retriever.
"I am a monster. I am the Son of Sam," Berkowitz boasted in one letter, per the outlet. "I love to hunt. Prowling the streets looking for fair game tasty meat."

He is now serving six consecutive life terms after having pleaded guilty to six counts of second-degree murder , seven counts of attempted second-degree murder and assault for the eight targeted shootings he perpetrated during his rampage.
But Berkowitz now claims he's found God behind bars and that his place is ministering to other inmates.
In fact, his bold assertion about receiving a beautiful reward comes on the heels of him intentionally skipping a parole hearing that might have led to his freedom!
He had been denied parole 12 previous times.
"My work is in prison where God has His people confined," he arrogantly wrote in his May 16 email, per the Post. "These men need guidance, help, and encouragement. I'm an elder, and this is my calling."
In fact, Berkowitz has seemingly given up on one day being freed from stir, saying, "the only place I'm looking forward to going is to heaven to be with the Lord.
"I'm already free," he explained. "Jesus, who is my lord and Messiah, has already set me free from the power of sin and Satan."

But the aging killer's faith in divine grace means little to Robert Violante, 69, who was partially blinded by a bullet to the head during Berkowitz's final shooting on July 31, 1977.

On that night, Violante, then 20, was sitting in a parked Buick Skylark in Brooklyn with his date, Stacy Moskowitz, 20, after taking in the Martin Scorsese flick New York, New York . Berkowitz's bullets killed Stacy, leaving Violante bitter to this day.
"That takes some pair of balls, to say the least," Violante told the outlet of Berkowitz's faith he's going to see God's Pearly Gates. "He is only going to go to hell one day, and that's it."
