Trump after Lindsay Clancy mistrial: ‘There’ll be a price’
( NewsNation ) — In his first public comments on the Lindsay Clancy trial , President Donald Trump says he has been following the case, calling what Clancy did "a horrible, horrible thing."
"It's a terrible situation. She did a horrible, horrible, thing, can't be worse, but you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price. It's going to be a mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they're going to go through another trial. It's too bad," Trump told reporters Friday.
Clancy's trial ended in a hung jury Friday , with a lone juror opting against acquittal , her defense attorney said.

Trump says Clancy will have to face the consequences, whether that means jail time or time in a mental institution. Clancy is currently being held in the Tewksbury Hospital.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz informed reporters outside the courthouse that his office would not make the decision to retry the case on Friday, and said that determination would be made at a later date.
"This case has always been about those three children. We are here today because they are not," Cruz said.
Clancy's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, said next steps will come in later this fall, adding, "She'll be ready, we'll be ready," if the case goes back to trial.
