Warm and windy sunshine continues, but rain and storm chances return Sunday into Labor Day
SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Friday, Utah! We will start our holiday weekend off dry, windy, and warm, but rain and storm chances quickly return for our Sunday and Monday.
Sunny and windy Friday
We're looking at mostly sunny skies and gusty south winds. Daytime highs for our Friday will warm into the upper 80s to near 90° along the Wasatch Front. High temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s for the valleys of southern Utah.
If you're heading out to some of our local Beehive Blitz high school football games, we're expecting mostly clear skies for local game-time conditions. Temperatures along the Wasatch Front will dip from the 80s down into the 70s.
Southern Utah will see temperatures go from near 90° at kickoff, with temperatures dipping through the 80s during the games. It looks like a comfortable Friday evening for high school football!
Holiday weekend outlook
Our Labor Day weekend will kick off with beautiful conditions on Saturday! We're looking at mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. The wind will remain gusty out of the southwest between 20-30 mph during the afternoon hours. High temperatures will warm into the upper 80s along the Wasatch Front with daytime highs in the low 90s for southern Utah. It's looking like we will be able to keep most of Saturday dry across Utah. This will definitely be your outdoor day for the weekend.
The weather will take a sharp turn as we move into our Sunday. Clouds will quickly increase across the state with scattered showers and storms that will be building in from southwest to northeast through the day.
Showers and storms will likely be throughout the day across portions of central and southern Utah, with chances increasing across northern Utah by Sunday afternoon and evening.

Thanks to the clouds and moisture, temperatures will likely drop back below average. High temperatures will cool to the lower 80s across the Wasatch Front. High temperatures will also cool into the mid 80s across southern Utah.
The NWS has outlooked most of the Beehive state under a "Marginal" level 1 risk for flash flooding for our Sunday. The risk increases to a level 2 "Slight" risk for central and southwest Utah. This really highlights the I-15 corridor from Beaver down through the St. George area, especially for areas near the local burn scars.
Folks in this area need to stay weather-aware this weekend and be prepared to act if flash flooding does begin to develop in or near your location.
Labor Day forecast
The latest data highlights the best chances for widespread shower and storm coverage occurring across Utah on Sunday into early Monday morning. Currently, Labor Day looks to have lingering showers and rumbles through the 1st half of Monday across the Wasatch Front down to just south of the I-80 corridor.
Overall, it looks like the weather should begin to improve and dry as we move throughout Labor Day afternoon into the evening hours.
Temperatures look to remain at or below average across the state as we head into early next week. Residual moisture and passing disturbances will keep isolated rain chances in the forecast through much of next week.
