Wegmans Just Recalled This Popular Item—Here's What You Need to Know

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is rounding out the month with yet another public health alert. This one aimed at consumers of frozen chicken nuggets sold at Wegmans.

The public health alert was issued on January 27, 2025 and cites the possibility of "extraneous material contamination" in family packs of Wegmans' fully-cooked breaded chicken breast nuggets, specifically bone fragments. The FSIS initiated the alert in order to notify consumers that it is not safe to eat the product, however, a recall has not been requested due to the product no longer being available for purchase.

The product in question was produced on August 26, 2024 and comes in a 46-ounce plastic package containing "Wegmans FAMILY PACK FULLY COOKED Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat" printed on the label. A "best if used by" date of 08 26 25 will also be present and located on the back of the packaging next to the barcode in the lower right corner. The establishment number, "P-3394," should also be listed inside the USDA mark of inspection. Labels can be viewed here for those who believe they might have this product in their possession.

As per the FSIS notice, the poultry item was produced solely for Wegmans Food Markets and distributed to retailers in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, DC. The FSIS was notified of the problem after Wegmans received a number of consumer complaints reporting bone fragments in their meat. Thankfully, there have yet to be any confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of the meat.

The main concern of the FSIS is that some of these affected products may still be in the freezers of consumers. Those who do have this product in their possession are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase or throw it out entirely. Consumption is not safe, and for your safety, should be avoided.
