The Grandfather Puzzle

Ora DeKornfeld is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker who began her career as a video journalist at The New York Times. She now directs, shoots, and edits documentary films that resist easy answers — morally complicated, human-scaled, and often funny in the places you don't expect. DeKornfeld directed the Emmy-nominated short USA v Scott (Tribeca 2020, The New Yorker); Stalin Boys (SXSW 2024), winner of both the Audience Award and Special Jury Prize; and The Grandfather Puzzle (Full Frame 2026), winner of the Audience Award. She shot and edited Isabel Castro's Mija (Sundance 2022) and was a co-editor on Elizabeth Lo's Mistress Dispeller. She has directed multiple episodes of the Netflix Original Explained and is currently in production on her first feature film, following journalistic fixers in Mexico.

Noémi Veronika Szakonyi is an IDA Awards nominated producer and director, and the co-founder of Match Frame Productions, an independent film production company based in Budapest. She was a Sundance DFP Grantee in 2015 (Afterglow), 2019 (Her Mothers) and 2021 (Agent of Happiness), and the documentaries she has produced — Agent of Happiness, I Won't Die, Her Mothers — premiered at festivals including Sundance, Hot Docs, CPH:DOX and Warsaw, winning several awards worldwide. She studied in the Graduate Filmmaking Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts on a scholarship in 2018, leaving to focus on her ongoing projects. Her first feature film as a director, Six Weeks, premiered at Sarajevo in 2022 and has since won more than twenty international awards, among them the Just Film Grand Prix at Tallinn Black Nights and the László B. Nagy Award for Best Film from the Hungarian Film Critics. She is currently writing her second feature film while pursuing a BA in Psychology.

Máté Artur Vincze is an IDA Documentary Awards nominated producer and filmmaker. He graduated from the Graduate Filmmaking MFA programme at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and established Match Frame Productions with Noémi Veronika Szakonyi in 2014. The company is dedicated to creative documentaries and XR content, and its work has been funded by the Sundance Institute, HBO Europe and Creative Europe MEDIA, premiering at IDFA, Hot Docs, Warsaw, Sarajevo and Sheffield. Their latest feature documentary, Agent of Happiness, premiered in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
