Per the spokesperson, the closure will allow “the store to undergo a remodel that will improve the shopping experience for customers and the working experience for our Crew Members.”

“We expect this remodel to take several months to complete, and we will reopen the store as soon as we possibly can,” the spokesperson said. “While this store is temporarily closed, you'll find some of your favorite Crew Members working in our surrounding stores.”

“Crew Members can choose to work at another Trader Joe's store or take time off while we are closed,” they said.

The spokesperson emphasized that the changes to the store are intended to better the “in-store experience” for customers and employees.

West Side Rag shared an image of a sign the store put outside its door about the temporary closure.

“Due to major renovation plans we will be temporarily shutting our doors. We promise not to be gone too long & will reopen as soon as we can!” the sign read. “Our last day open will be May 17th. This is not a goodbye but a see you later!”

The store signed off with a heart and wrote “TJ's 542.”

The Manhattan store is located two blocks from Central Park and is “hands down the busiest Trader Joe's in the world,” per the grocery chain's website .

The website also shared that the towering location takes up two floors, three if you include the entrance. It has three times as many crew members and checkout stands as a “typical TJ's,” the site said, as well as two elevators and four escalators.

“This may sound daunting, but to our Manhattan customers and Crew, it's just another neighborhood store,” the website said. It also said each Trader Joe's “is a distinct reflection of the neighborhood in which it resides,” whether it be the actual structure of the store or its customers and crew.

This location, per West Side Rag , is known for its extensive line, which the outlet said circles throughout several sections of the store.

A post on X sharing the sign evoked strong reactions.

“Apocalypse-tier news for the UWS. Thoughts and prayers,” one user wrote.

“I hope this fixes the line situation lol,” one shopper wrote. “Unlikely,” the poster replied.

Another posted an image of Paul Revere and said, “me texting the group chat,” signaling the dire need of Upper West Side shoppers to hear the news.
